Discovery Playhouse Donor Video
A regional arts organization needed a campaign centerpiece for their annual fund drive. We produced a short documentary film telling one family’s story of what the theater meant to them. The campaign exceeded its goal by 40 percent.
Discovery Playhouse in Cape Girardeau was preparing a major donor campaign to fund theater expansion. They had a compelling story to tell — but they needed a piece of media that could carry the emotional weight of that story in a way that a brochure or website alone could not.
The challenge was not whether the story existed. The challenge was whether it could be captured with enough intimacy and clarity to move donors who had never been to the theater.
We captured in-house footage of participants and donors, and interviewed them directly about what the playhouse had meant to them over the years. We also documented the vision for the planned expansions and the future mission of the institution.
The film was built around one family’s story as the emotional anchor — specific, human, relatable — with other voices and footage layered around it to show breadth of impact.
The film became the centerpiece of the annual fund campaign. The campaign exceeded its goal by 40 percent in the first six weeks.
Beyond the campaign itself, the film gave the organization a proof point they could use across every touchpoint — donor communications, grant applications, board presentations, social media. One piece of work that continued to compound.
